Runna Training App: A Runner’s Friend or Foe?

Have you ever tried the Runna training app for your runs? Recently, a Reddit user, bauterr, shared their experience with the app and sought advice on its intensity level and recovery effects.

Summary

  • Some users find the Runna app too intense, leading to potential injuries.
  • Others appreciate the structured training plans and customization options.
  • Pacing targets in long runs are deemed unrealistic by some users.
  • There are requests for more flexibility in workout choices within the app.

Zestyclose-Twist8882 replied, “Very interested to hear opinions, I was planning on getting the Runna program next month to try to shave some time off of my half. Interested if people like it with modifications like I’m seeing mentioned, or if anyone can recommend a better program for my goals.”

moggiedon shared, “I knew Runna was going to be too intense for me as soon as I’d paid my subscription. Indeed I did get my first ever injury (in 15 years of running) after 6 weeks. Still used it to train for another race, but told the app I was running 1-2 times less per week so it cut out one of the intense days and did easy runs ‘off plan’. Still got a 9min PB in the marathon. I see now there are options hidden in Advanced Settings to change the training intensity, but I’ve not played with that yet.”

Gnatt noted, “I’ve used it for general fitness for a few months and I enjoy that it suggests a variety of options each week. I definitely prefer having some structure to my week, with runs planned for specific days, and the ability to quickly rearrange them works for me and I’m far more likely to get out for a run as a result.”
