nike whats in the the bagNike wants to know what your packing in your bag.  They developed a pretty cool website that shows you their top Tour player’s bags… not too many surprises here… except that Tiger’s Method Putter, doesn’t make the list, and a look into Michael Jordan’s Bag.  Nike’s asking you to become a fan and follow their page, then show off what your playing with on Facebook and Twitter.  In return you get a peek at what everyone else is playing.

Phil Using An Odyssey Putter

The Long Drivers of America have announced that all clubs used in long driver contests (including the ReMax Long Drive Championship) must now be 50 inches or less. I see long drive guys at work from time to time and some of their clubs are really interesting. Most that I know use clubs under 50 inches but I think it is a good idea to kind of level out the playing field like this.

Villegas to Join TaylorMade Tour Staff in 2011

Good afternoon everyone! TaylorMade Golf has landed a big fish in the endorsement world. They’ve announced that Camilo Villegas will join thier staff in 2011. You can see the full press release below but here are the main points – Villegas will play TaylorMade clubs and ball. He’ll also wear a TaylorMade glove and hat, Adidas shoes and will carry a TaylorMade bag. You might remember that his current sponsor, Cobra Golf, was recently purchased by Puma. Cobra signed Puma staffer Johan Edfors to an equipment contract a few weeks ago. I’d imagine that Cobra/Puma will be on the lookout for a marquee name. Rickie Fowler would be the logical choice although he signed a muliti-year deal with Titliest last September.

Cure Your Slice From Your Knees

knee swing golf drill
This particular drill can be used for two different purposes, one to help fix your slice, and the other to reduce your lower body movement (which occasionally can also lead to a slice). In regards to specifically fixing your slice, swinging from your knees will promote a flatter more baseball-like swing path into the ball. This should help you move away from a common cause of the slice, a steep, upright swing. By swinging from your knees, you make an upright swing impossible… and you force yourself to flatten your swing path in order to make contact with the ball. I’d recommend staying away from this drill on a range like the one photographed here – the dividers can cause problems. Try this on an open grass range and tee the ball up – use a long iron, or wood if you’re adventurous.

Another common cause for the slice is an over active lower body. By swinging from your knees you basically take your entire lower body out of the swing, and force your upper body to coil to compensate. Therefore, this drill is very effective at reducing a common slice cause, an over-active lower body.  By eliminating your lower body from the swing, you are forced to rotate fully, making it very difficult to "get ahead of the ball". This rotation, is an important factor in helping your square the clubface – leading to straighter shots.

Give it a try!
