Mixed Reactions

One Reddit user mentioned, “I know I’m in the minority, but I actually enjoyed when Jim Hughson called the leaf games. I think it’s a little overblown about being against the leafs so much.” It seems like not everyone agrees on Hughson’s commentary approach.

Biased or Not?

Another user expressed, “I never thought he was anti-Leafs. But he had a hard time hiding his Canucks bias anytime he was calling a game they were involved in.” This highlights the perception of bias that some viewers have towards Hughson.

Comparison with Bob Cole

When comparing Hughson with Bob Cole, a user remarked, “Bob Cole was not a Leafs fan, he’s a self-admitted Habs fan. That said, I still preferred him more than Hughson.” Preferences for commentators seem to vary based on personal tastes.

Leaf fan hatred for Hughson was massively overdone. He’s a great play-by-play guy, and yeah I mean I would think he might have been more excited for Vancouver to score than the Leafs, but I always thought he did a good job and he has a good voice.

Of him, Cuthbert, and Gord Miller, I think I prefer Cuthbert and Miller, but not as a disservice for Hughson.

I think Canada has been really fortunate with a ton of great commentators. Since I’m in the positive mood, I’ll even say I thought Paul Romanuk had a good voice and cadence for play-by-play. He just wasn’t… good at the improvising part, or remembering stuff lol
