Tiger Woods at EA Sports Studio

SirShanksAlot Comments: Golf week recently spent a day with Tiger Woods at the EA Sports motion capture studio for the filming of their upcoming game: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2013, slated to be released next spring. We’ve shared a couple of pictures below, but visit the link above for larger collection. Cool stuff, but I gotta say, I’d rather play this game using Tiger’s swing from a couple years ago.

Tiger Woods' Back Yard

Source: Tiger Woods’ finished practice facility at home is incredible – Devil Ball Golf – Golf Blog – Yahoo! Sports

SirShanksAlot Comments: Well, you may all recall the first photo’s of Tiger Woods’ home… and what looked like a recently top-dressed practice facility (see the picture below), but now a year later, this backyard is beautifully manicured. Have a look at the pictures. He’s got multiple greens setup, with bunkers to test himself in all types of wind direction. Cool Stuff.

Nike's Spin Activated Golf Ball

Source: Golf Inventions, Patents, and Technology via The IP Golf Guy (aka The Golf Patent Attorney): Yellow and Blue Make a Green Golf Ball, but Only if You Achieve a High Spin Rate

SirShanksAlot: Upon close inspection, this is one of the coolest golf patents I’ve ever seen – this patent is by Nike. At first glance, I thought this was a patent for a dual-colored golf ball much like some of those old Ping golf balls. But alas, this is much cooler. Here’s a rundown of how it works:
Each golf ball contains two pigments that are independent of each other – blue and yellow. When enough spin is imparted on the ball – it will appear green in the air. There is also talk about having the pigments only react when oscillated and in sun light – which would enable the ball to appear white in normal conditions. This patent is pretty intense, so we recommend clicking the link above for all the nitty gritty details. Cool stuff from Nike!

Bridgestone's All-In-One Golf Shaft

Source: Golf Inventions, Patents, and Technology via The IP Golf Guy (aka The Golf Patent Attorney): Has Bridgestone Invented the Golf Shaft of the Future?

SirShanksAlot Comments: Now this patent from our friend David Dawsey caught my eye. Bridgestone recently patented this shaft within a shaft, shaft. Why you ask? Well Bridgestone says this duel shaft model has some interesting characteristics. For slower swing speeds only the outer shaft will flex (as you read this, check out the pics below). The inner shaft on the other hand won’t flex until your swing speed is fast enough – this inner shaft changes the characteristics to meet the needs of these players. Now comes the confusing part, but I’ll continue it after the pics below.

TRUE Linkswear, Callaway & Cleveland News Rumors

Hey folks, thanks for stopping by today we’ll take a look as some news and rumors floating around.  Enjoy!

TRUE Linkswear after a real solid year is already working hard on their new 2012 line.  This series will features shoes at a wider range of price points and include a women’s model. They are also diversifying, and expect to see hats, towels and other accessories next year. Take it or leave it, but the rumor is, next years TRUE’s will take barefoot innovation to the next level – whatever this may mean, is up for discussion (please no “toe shoes”).

Cleveland Golf is working on developing some forged blade irons for 2012.

Callaway, after suffering a year of poor sales will likely take their 2012 line into a new direction.  Expect a movement away from the Diablo line, but expect forged composite to continue (who would give up a partnership with Lamborghini anyway).

That’s all we got for now! What are your thoughts?

Srixon's Wavy Dimples

Source: The IP Golf Guy – The Golf Patent Lawyer (Golf Inventions, Patents, Litigation, Trademarks): Wave-like Dimples, The Key to Hitting Bombs

SirShanksAlot Comments: Another cool dimple patent has surfaced. Srixon has patented a wave like dimple pattern which apparently produces results, but wait.. “The detailed reason [behind the balls performance] has not been identified, but it is inferred that this is because separation of air from the dimple surface in the dimple is prevented and separated air re-contacts the dimple surface in the dimple.” Hey, whatever works.
