Two Clubs Worth Seeing, Not Hitting

Source: Golf Inventions, Patents, and Technology via The IP Golf Guy (aka The Golf Patent Attorney): Would it Work? Driver Head with “Flowing Moving Part

SirShanksAlot Comments: Our friend over had golf-patents.com got these next two patents right when he labeled these next few patents “would it work”.  Both these patents feature movable parts. The first a steel ball bearing that sits inside the club cavity that will impact the back of the clubface the moment of impact. My opinion?  Have you ever heard a rattle in your shaft from loose epoxy glue? This would be much worse.

The next patent features a tube of liquid (mercury apparently) that will pool on the toe or heel of the club on off-center hits.

While both these patents are cool, I think they suffer from the same flaw.  In the split-second (technically about 0.0005 of a second) during impact, the steel ball will still be mid-air in the clubhead, and the mercury fluid will have moved such a minuscule amount that it would make absolutely no difference.  I’m not even going to talk about centrifugal forces… back to the drawing board.

Callaway Japan Legacy Drivers

SirShanksAlot Comments: Looks like Callaway will be launching a new Legacy Driver model for the Japan marketplace.  This new model appears to feature a weight port and interesting spiral-like design which likely reduces the overall weight distribution of the club (or may just be aesthetic features).  Enjoy the pics below.  image

Clever Grip Tension Patent

Source: Golf Inventions, Patents, and Technology via The IP Golf Guy (aka The Golf Patent Attorney): Gripping the Club too Tight? This Golf Glove Invention may be the Solution:

SirShanksAlot Comments: As we have stated on this site many times, gripping a club too tightly can be a major cause of a slice. This is mostly because a tight grip limits your wrists ability to roll and rotate freely through impact. This cool new invention places rods in the “grip fingers” to counteract and reduce a tight grip. I’d be interested in giving this a try, but I’d be curious how much affect it would actually have. Cool pictures below, and more at the link above.

Fowler's Amp Pro Blade Prototypes

As we all know by now, Ricky Fowler is a Cobra guy. Although he’s still managed to retain his ties with Titelst for his ball and wedge contracts. Below are some snaps of his custom Amp Pro blade prototypes – pretty slick stuff. I like that they imprinted to the actual lofts on the clubs.  Enjoy!

Two For The Kids, One For Us Adults

Want to get kids interested in the game? Make it fun, and make it easy. I have to give credit to the folks at this years merchandising show, they really went out of their way to make the game fun and enjoyable for the youngsters. BirdieBall setup a giant inflatable dragon for the kids to hit at – and the kids seem to ate it up. Also at the show were some brave souls that dressed up in padded velcro suits, and took to the range to let kids hit foam balls at them (hopefully they were a little luckier than David Faherty shown below wearing a similar suit). Although I’m not sure how I feel about teaching kids that it’s funny to hit golf balls at someone… you have to start somewhere.

Ping Nome Putter Spotted

SirShanksAlot comments: A new Ping putter was spotted out at the Humana Challenge and we’ve got some pictures below. This putter dubbed the “Nome” – a nickname I actually reserve for a fellow golfer of mine who stands a mere 5 feet tall… and almost the same around – is a pretty sleek looking mallet. Anyways, I digress, enjoy the pictures below (and more at the link above)! We’ll try to gather more details as they come in.

Callaway's Patent Duo

Hey everyone, Callaway’s got a couple of patents out there that are worth sharing with you all from our friend Dave Dawsey at Golf-Patents.com.

First up, Callaway’s trademarked the name “PARADOX” for a new golf ball. Most high-end balls could be considered paradoxes these days anyway, with their ability to reduce spin on driver shots, and amp it up for short irons. Cool name regardless, I’m looking forward to testing this new ball out… if of course it makes it to market.
